Spill Pallet Inspection and Maintenance: A Practical Record

By Zhuji Trading · Published

Secondary containment needs an operating routine after delivery. A pallet with a damaged body, displaced grating or an occupied sump may no longer provide the intended service. A useful inspection record connects observations to actions and identifies who can return the equipment to use.

Create a baseline at receiving

Record the supplier model, drawing revision, permitted container arrangement and confirmed capacities. Inspect delivery damage before placing containers on the pallet. Photograph the body, grating and accessories and confirm that the delivered components match the approved order.

Keep the model instructions with the equipment record. This baseline makes later changes visible and helps identify replacement parts. A photo alone is insufficient if several similar-looking models use different grates or seals.

A routine check should address visible cracking, distortion, impact marks, grating position, accessible fittings and signs of liquid in the sump. Confirm that the container layout still matches the approved arrangement and that access has not become obstructed.

Record findings, the responsible person, corrective action and closure. Set inspection frequency through the site risk assessment and supplier guidance, with additional checks after relevant events such as impacts or spills. A generic weekly or monthly schedule should not override a higher-risk operating requirement.

Escalate unknown liquids and damage

If liquid is discovered, follow the site spill-response procedure and identify the hazard before recovery. Unknown liquids, damaged containers or exposure risks require the trained response team. This procurement guide does not provide a chemical neutralisation or emergency cleanup procedure.

Damaged equipment should be isolated from use pending the approved assessment. Do not patch, drill or substitute parts solely to keep storage running. Ask the supplier what inspection, repair or replacement is permitted for the exact damage and model.

Plan cleaning without creating another release

Safely relocate containers under the site procedure before removing grating or accessing the sump. Use only cleaning methods and agents confirmed suitable for the equipment and contaminants. Collect contaminated liquid and cleaning residues for the approved waste route rather than rinsing them into a drain.

A drain plug is not permission to discharge. Confirm how any fitting is controlled and checked before reuse. CCOHS hazardous-waste guidance provides background on compatible collection and segregation; the site procedure must determine the actual waste handling.

Document return to service

Before reuse, verify that required components are present, grating is correctly installed, fittings are secure, the sump has its intended available capacity and the approved loading arrangement is restored. Record who accepted the unit and any restrictions.

For replacement sourcing, send Zhuji Trading the model identification, damage description, component photographs and original requirements. We can coordinate supplier review and replacement options. If the original model cannot be confirmed, recheck fit, capacity, loading and compatibility rather than approving a substitute on appearance.
