How to Evaluate Insulated Pallet Covers with Temperature Testing

By Zhuji Trade · Published

“Protects for several hours” is incomplete without a load, a starting condition, an ambient profile and an acceptance limit. A useful pallet-cover trial measures whether a defined shipping configuration protects a particular product through a particular exposure.

Write the acceptance rule first

Ask the product owner to provide the allowable transport temperature conditions and any excursion rules. Do not invent a universal temperature band for food, chemicals or medicines. Define whether the decision is based on product temperature, a specified surrogate or another agreed measurement.

State what constitutes a failed trial before collecting data. This avoids accepting a favorable average while ignoring a vulnerable location. Decide how missing records, late installation and other deviations will be reviewed.

Document what was actually tested

  • Cover model, construction, dimensions, seams, closure and base design.
  • Load mass, carton layout, fill level and thermal characteristics of the contents or surrogate.
  • Initial temperatures and conditioning procedures for load and packaging.
  • Time-dependent ambient exposure and any door opening or handling steps.
  • Logger identifiers, calibration status, positions and recording interval.

A report for a different cover size or load is supporting information, not automatic approval for your configuration. If a surrogate is used, explain why it represents the real cargo. Keep photographs with the test record.

Measure vulnerable positions, not just the center

Choose logger locations from the expected risk: edges, top surfaces, corners, base interfaces and the core may behave differently. Include an ambient reference so the exposure can be interpreted. The exact placement plan should follow the product and test design; a fixed sensor count cannot be prescribed for every pallet.

WHO route-profiling guidance explains why passive-system performance changes with the ambient exposure profile. Use route evidence to select test conditions. It does not establish a guaranteed hold time for an untested pallet cover.

Turn the result into a usable operating specification

Compare candidate covers under equivalent conditions. After laboratory evaluation, examine whether field handling reproduces the approved assembly. Record installation, inspection, contingency and removal instructions. For reusable covers, include the condition of the tested cover and define when deterioration requires reassessment.

Retain the approved drawing, report and revision history with the purchasing specification. Changes to size, materials, closure, load or route should trigger a documented review. Zhuji Trade can coordinate supplier documentation and samples; acceptance of a thermal system belongs with the buyer’s designated technical or quality team.
