Food-Contact Dry Bulk Container Liners: Documents Buyers Should Request

By Zhuji Trade · Published

When food touches a dry bulk liner, “food grade” is not a complete purchasing specification. Buyers need documentation that matches the offered liner, intended food and use conditions in the destination market. A certificate for a different material or factory product does not answer that question.

Define the actual contact conditions

Tell the supplier what food will contact the liner, its physical form, contact duration and expected temperature conditions. Identify whether coatings, printing, closures or other components could contact the food. State whether the liner is intended for a single shipment and how it will be stored before use.

Distinguish direct contact with loose food from a liner surrounding already sealed packages. The risk assessment and document request may differ. Do not assume a general packaging description covers both applications.

Request a traceable document package

  • Supplier and product identification linked to the exact offered construction.
  • A material and component description, including the food-contact surface.
  • Applicable compliance declaration and the conditions under which it is valid.
  • Relevant supporting test information and a way to resolve technical questions.
  • Batch traceability, storage instructions and notification of material changes.

For EU plastic food-contact applications, the European Commission explains the role of a Declaration of Compliance supported by documentation and migration assessment under representative conditions. This is an EU-specific framework, not a universal certificate for every destination. Have the responsible compliance team confirm the current requirements for the intended use.

Review the gaps between paperwork and the delivered liner

Match the model, construction and supplier identity on the declaration to the quotation and sample. Ask whether the report covers the complete article or only a constituent film. Check dates and revisions, but do not treat a recent date alone as evidence that the intended food and temperature are covered.

Request an explanation for vague wording, unidentifiable samples or test conditions that do not match use. If information is confidential, arrange a suitable review route with the supplier or test provider rather than accepting an unsupported claim.

Include hygiene and receiving controls

Confirm how liners are protected during packing, storage and installation. Define incoming checks for intact packaging, identification, cleanliness and visible damage. Keep accepted documents with the order record and establish what happens when the construction changes.

Zhuji Trade can coordinate documentation requests with candidate suppliers. Share the destination market and intended use at inquiry stage so commercial comparison follows the same compliance brief. Final suitability needs review by the buyer’s responsible food-contact and quality personnel; this guide does not certify a product or shipment.
